Top Limits — limits on chart

Goal

Break down the chart limits layer: active orders and history, start and end volume labels, size thresholds.

Limits on the BTC/USDT chart, 1h, “Show active” mode: green lines are bids below the price, red are asks above it, the label is volume in dollars
Limits on the BTC/USDT chart, 1h, “Show active” mode: green lines are bids below the price, red are asks above it, the label is volume in dollars
What it shows

Individual large limit orders as horizontal lines at the order price. Two modes: active orders and history.

  • Green line — bid, below the price. Red — ask, above the price.
  • The line starts where the order was placed and runs to the current moment while the order stands. Line length is how long the order lives.
  • The label is volume in dollars. 12.38m means 12.38 million.
  • The larger the order, the lighter the line.
“Show history” on 15m: orders that are already gone are short lines from appearance to disappearance
“Show history” on 15m: orders that are already gone are short lines from appearance to disappearance

“Show history” adds orders that are already gone. The line runs from appearance to disappearance.

  • Price reached the level and the line ended — the order was filled.
  • Price was far away and the line ended — the order was pulled.

“Show start volume” and “Show end volume”: label 0.75m → 6.70m — how much was placed and how much it became; settings card on the right

“Show start volume” and “Show end volume” give a two-number label: 0.75m → 6.70m.

  • The first is how much stood when the order appeared.
  • The second is how much stands now or stood at the moment it disappeared.
  • The number grew — the order was topped up. Dropped — it was filled in parts or cut.

How it differs from the heatmap. The heatmap is a snapshot of the whole order book: each price is colored by the total money, big and small orders together, unnamed. Limits list the largest orders one by one: each as a separate line, with its own number and history.

  • A $6.7M wall below the price. On the heatmap it is a bright band with no number; you can't tell if it is one order or ten. In limits it is the line “0.75m → 6.70m”: one order, topped up from 0.75.
  • The wall disappeared. On the heatmap the band faded, and why is unknown. In limits the line ended: filled or pulled.
  • Nothing below the price. On the heatmap it is a dark zone. In limits — nothing: there is nothing to draw.

The heatmap shows all orders by color, limits show individual large ones as lines with their lifetime.
What it's for

See individual large orders as levels. Where a big buyer or seller stands, how long they have been standing and whether they hold the order.

For example.

  • A green 6.70m line below the price has been running for a second day — the buyer holds the order.
  • The line broke off while the price was far away — the order was pulled.
  • A red line that the price reached and where the line ended — the order was filled: the seller gave up the coin.
  • Label 0.75m → 6.70m — the order has been topped up almost ninefold since it appeared.

In alerts

Yes — limit alert: its own button in the right rail, watches for a specific large order to appear. Covered in the “Alerts” block.

Try it yourself
  1. Turn on “Limits on chart”. Set the minimum duration to 15 minutes.
  2. Find the longest line and check its volume in the label.
What you should get. What's left is an order that really stands rather than one that flashed by. Line length is how long it lives.
Paid layer.
Takeaway

Each line is one large limit order at its price. Green — bid, red — ask, lighter — larger. An active one runs to the current moment, a historical one from appearance to fill or removal. Label 0.75m → 6.70m — how much was placed and how much it became. An alert on such an order is a limit alert.

Quick check

A Top Limits line broke off, and the price was far from it. What happened?
